Supporting local families through our Vegetable Patch
Despite the antics of families of foxes, Olden Garden continues to be a hub for community vegetable growing – Lynne’s Vegetable Patch summer 2021
During the Covid lockdown restrictions in 2020, Olden Garden provided facilities to enable families to take part in a seed kit project which provides seeds, pots, compost and instructions for any children wanting to have a go at growing – Lynne’s Vegetable Patch 2020
By early 2021 the project had gone from strength to strength – Lynne’s Vegetable Patch spring 2021
Supporting our local community
Our Garden House and patio provide the ideal environment for awaydays and training days for staff from our local social services teams.
We know that many families don’t have gardens of their own and we are particularly keen for young people to experience gardens and nature. We are pleased that the following groups are involved and hope more will return in the autumn
- Highbury Community Nursery
- Monkey Puzzle Nursery at the Loxfords
Olden Garden celebrates the Chelsea Fringe
Enjoy our musical comedy with a rap celebrating the Chelsea Fringe 2021. Kate Shortt will take you to the greenhouse and the graffiti as she plays her ‘Air on a G-string’ on her cello in the Garden. With thanks to Laura and Andy for filming.
Our musical celebration in Olden Garden during the Chelsea Fringe in 2016. This video was created with much help from volunteers, as a contribution to Highbury Heritage, a resource created by Christ Church Highbury to meet the community engagement criteria of the Heritage Lottery Fund grant to repair its iconic church spire.
Come along to our volunteer workday – make new friends and join us for a coffee. We need more volunteers!
As a volunteer at our workdays you do not need to be a member. And gardening experience is not necessary; our volunteer gardeners will guide you. We will be open from 10am – 4pm.
Please remember to wear suitable shoes and to bring your own gloves; disposable gloves will be available. Our accessible toilet will be open. If you have any questions, or to let us know you or a friend might be interested, email email@example.com
We have laid new turf on a damaged section of the lawn, leaving an area for new planting and a space for new paving to be laid in the autumn.
In celebration of the Chelsea Fringe 2021, we filmed two special musical events in Olden Garden. ‘Air on a G-string’ is a musical comedy, with a rap celebrating the Chelsea Fringe, played by Kate Shortt on her cello in our garden and greenhouse and in front of the graffiti. ‘The Swan’ is a beautiful cello solo from ‘Carnival of the Animals’ and also played by Kate Shortt. These online events continue our tradition of marking the Chelsea Fringe with a musical celebration.
Come along to our Workday, meet others and learn about the Garden. Bring your own gloves and face covering (just in case) and a towel if you wish to wash your hands. Remember to wear appropriate footwear.
